Kolkata: In a major post-election development, security barricades installed outside the Kalighat residence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been removed, and nearby roads have been reopened for public movement.
The barricades, which had remained in place for a long time due to security arrangements and political activity, were reportedly dismantled soon after the recent election results. Local residents and commuters noticed the changes early in the day as police restrictions around the area were reduced.
Several roads near the Kalighat residence, previously affected by security control and traffic diversions, are now accessible to the general public. The reopening of the roads is expected to ease congestion in the area and improve daily traffic movement.
The development has triggered strong political reactions across West Bengal. Opposition leaders described the move as symbolic after the ruling party’s election setback, while supporters claimed it was part of a routine administrative decision following the polls.
Local shopkeepers and residents welcomed the reopening of the roads, saying normal movement had been affected for years because of heavy security arrangements around the residence.
Although there has been no official statement from the administration regarding the removal of the barricades, the incident has quickly become one of the most discussed political developments in the state after the election results.
Political observers believe the move reflects the changing atmosphere in Bengal politics as the state enters a new phase following the high-profile election season.
