Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the licences of four Domino’s Pizza outlets and one Pizza Hut establishment after inspections found serious food safety and hygiene violations.
The action followed a statewide inspection drive targeting major food chains across Maharashtra. Officials inspected several outlets to check compliance with food safety, hygiene, storage and food-handling standards.
Three of the Domino’s outlets facing suspension are located in Vile Parle West, Borivali West and R-City Mall in Ghatkopar West in Mumbai. The fourth outlet is located in Malkapur near Karad in Satara district. All four Domino’s outlets are operated by Jubilant FoodWorks Ltd.
The FDA also suspended the licence of a Pizza Hut outlet in Karad, operated by Sapphire Foods.
According to officials, the inspections revealed serious shortcomings in areas including hygiene, food handling, storage conditions and compliance with food safety regulations. The violations were considered serious enough to warrant suspension of the establishments’ food licences.
The inspections are part of Maharashtra’s wider efforts to ensure that restaurants and food chains comply with food safety regulations. Authorities have also issued improvement notices to other establishments where violations were detected.
The FDA is expected to continue inspections across the state, with restaurants and food businesses required to correct violations before they can resume operations under the suspended licences.s.
