A Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a violent incident reportedly took place inside the cockpit during the flight.
The incident occurred on September 30 aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, which was carrying 174 people. The aircraft was en route to Tel Aviv when a confrontation reportedly broke out between the two pilots. According to reports, one pilot attacked the other, leaving the captain injured.
The situation quickly became serious when the aircraft went into a rapid descent. Flight-tracking information indicated that the Boeing 737 lost around 14,000 feet in less than half a minute, raising concerns about the safety of everyone on board.
During the incident, the cockpit door was opened, and cabin crew and passengers were able to enter and assist in restraining the attacking pilot. Two off-duty pilots who were travelling as passengers also reportedly helped the crew regain control of the situation.
The aircraft was subsequently diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely. The injured pilots were taken for medical treatment, while passengers were kept safe following the emergency landing.
The incident initially raised fears of a possible hijacking or an attempt to deliberately bring down the aircraft. However, authorities have not yet established the exact motive behind the confrontation. Officials and the airline have urged caution over unverified claims while the investigation continues.
Emergency signals transmitted by the aircraft also prompted security concerns during the flight. Israeli authorities reportedly scrambled fighter aircraft after receiving indications of a possible security incident.
Authorities are now examining the cockpit events, flight data and statements from passengers and crew to determine exactly what happened and why the confrontation occurred.
While several details of the incident remain under investigation, the aircraft ultimately landed safely in Saudi Arabia, with no reported loss of life among the passengers and crew.
